PBP Dundalk are invited to negotiations with the Dept. of Justice

A People Before Profit organiser has received a call from the chief Superintendent asking if the community action group would consider entering into negotiations with the Department of Justice. The chief Superintendent made it clear that he was not calling on behalf of the minister for Justice and Law reform, but rather that it was his own initiative.

The People Before Profit organiser that received the call explained that he could not make such a decision and that it was up to attendees at the public meeting in Dundalk on Wednesday. He also asked for further clarification on what such negotiations would entail.

Mark Fitzsimons, People Before Profit local disabilities spokesperson has made clear his feelings on the matter stating that any negotiations can not solely centre around stopping or changing the form of our silent, peaceful protests. Mr Fitzsimmons has been supported by other local activist who want the re-opening of the Louth hospital, Dermot Ahern's lack of presence and availability in his own community and the forthcoming budget on the agenda.

Jim Fergus another People Before Profit activist insists that all exchanges between the minister and community activists must be recorded. Jim makes clear that the minister's record on telling the truth is very poor and as such he cannot be trusted.

Although nothing may come about from these talks about talks, local activists contacted have expressed their hopes that finally the minister will face questions about his role in the closure of the local hospital and the economic crash.

People Before Profit will be in contact with the chief Superintendent on Monday and will keep the public fully informed on developments.
