Town Clerk intimidates councillor over links with People Before Profit

Frank Pentony (pictured planning manouvres), the town clerk for Dundalk, has truly overstepped the mark in an attempt at bullying an independent councillor over his political co-operation with People Before Profit in Dundalk.

In what many are seeing as a desperate act to protect himself from investigations being carried out by People Before Profit Dundalk, Pentony demanded to know from the councillor if he was a member of the popular peoples movement. He produced a file from his desk with numerous newspaper clippings and stated that the councillors name was "all over" the file. He also threatened (how this is a threat we are not exactly sure) that if he did not admit to being a member he would ask him publicly at a meeting of the town council. We are not revealing the councillors name at this stage to protect him.

The councillor in question is not a member of People Before Profit Dundalk as we do not have membership processes. Instead, if members of the public support our campaigns they can attend public meetings and get involved but there is no process of membership just as there are no leaders. We have decided to run our local movement this way to lessen the risk of our supporters being bullied and intimidated as the councillor has been by unelected officials.

The councillor has and continues to support and assist in our campaign to clean up local government, bringing an end to corruption and a new beginning of accountability and transparency. For his bravery he must be commended and when and if we get his permission to publish his name we will do so proudly.
